Christine Carman ¹

There seems to be some discrepancy regarding the date of death for Christine. According to the Kentucky death index, Christine Carman died on September 2, 1919; however, an obituary found online at Obituary Central gives evidence that she lived until 1997. The obituary from Boyle County, Kentucky, was Tuesday, April 15, 1997. The obituary text follows:

Christine C. Hixson
MIDDLEBURG - Services for Christine Carman Hixson, 84, Kings Mountain, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Bartle Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
She died Monday at Fellowship Home, Danville.
Born April 10, 1913, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late E.V. and Martha Falconberry Carman. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Mack Jordan Hixson; two sons, Lucian C. Hixson of West Chester, Ohio, and Louis D. Hixson of Sunman, Ind.; a sister, Gustava White Patterson of Yosemite; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials may go to Hospice of Lake Cumberland or Heritage Hospice.


As can be seen, Christine's date of birth in the obituary is listed as April 10, 1913, while another Internet source, the Kentucky Birth Index, lists her birth as April 13, 1913. This particular discrepancy is not too difficult to understand but the 78-year discrepancy in the date of death is pretty incredible. I am living the original birth and death records as they are until a secondary confirmation of either record can be found. ³
