Jacob's name is first listed in the 1850 census in the home of William and Polly "Fortenberry" as "Baker" aged 25 with an occupation as a farmer. In the prior census of 1840, he was probably the one listed under the "Male" section in the "10 and under 15" column.
There is speculation about whether he is the parent of the twins Dorinda and Florinda who were five years old in 1850.
