Land grants were awarded by the federal government to individuals who were willing to settle in new territory
and work the land. Many of our ancestors took advantage of these opportunities for free land. The Bureau of
Land Management (BLM) is in the process of putting their original land grant documents online for viewing.
The images below were found at BLM's General Land Office Records web site (
http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/PatentSearch/Default.asp?). I appreciate Gary Kennedy for informing me
about this site.
